Grow Along With Me - History
In the spring of 2007 Alberta Health and Wellness announced $2.3 million in support of the Grow Along With Me project, one of four provincial initiatives that help families provide the best possible start for their children.
Grow Along with Me was implemented across the entire health region. This created a coordinated approach in support of the emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of all children.
The project focused on children between 18 and 36 months and served over 3,000 children in the former Chinook Health Region.
Project planning began following the funding announcement; including the development of a steering committee, the hiring of project staff and professional training.
In January 2008 the program launched with a special event featuring Dr. Bryan Kolb from the University of Lethbridge and Dr. Fraser Mustard from Toronto, Ontario, both specialists in the field of early child development.
Continuing to grow
Grow Along with Me was a three year, provincially funded program which came to an end May 31, 2010. It is hoped that the seeds planted through this project will continue to grow for years to come, creating a strong foundation for child development in our region.
Although the project was focused on reaching children 18-36 months, it expanded services and strengthened parenting skills will have a lasting impact on all Southern Alberta children.
